At Calico we take our environmental responsibilities seriously and continually strive to reduce any harmful environmental effects which arise from our business.
We sort and recycle all our waste paper for weekly collections. Office waste paper, packaging and shrink wrap is separated and collected for recycling along with our production waste paper. Also wherever possible we try to reuse any materials and consumables, to reduce our final waste.
We do not purchase copier paper. Any waste paper that is generated is cut to size and used for in-house office printing. We always try to print double sided where ever possible and use online PDF proofs when liaising with clients.
ENVIRONMENTAL PAPER CHOICES
At Calico we print on the most environmentally sourced stock available. We help our clients by giving recommendations to our customers when they require papers from sustainable sources.
FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certificated papers are promoted to help sustain the responsible management of the world forests. The FSC “provide businesses and consumers with a tool to influence how forests worldwide are managed”. Due to this all our stock papers are FSC certificated – Pro Design, Mondi Colour Copy, Lumi Digital Silk and Navigator.
WHAT WE DO
At Calico we strive to improve our environmental performance. In particular we
ensure that we are in a position to comply with existing and future environmental legislation. As a company we like to liaise and work with both customers and suppliers who take an interest in the environment.
A FEW HELPFUL TIPS FOR HELPING THE ENVIRONMENT
Does your project need to be this size or can it be smaller? A reduced format could save paper, ink, water and transportation.
Can you use a lighter/thinner paper for your job? Avoid using heavier paper than is necessary. The most waste and cost effective formats are A sizes. All materials and printing presses are based around these.
Can you print in smaller volumes?
We can achieve excellent print quality with digital printing. It’s not only better for the environment to print in smaller volumes but it’s also better for your cash flow too!
Proofing is one of the most important parts of the printing process.
This reduces the risk of having to re-print the same job.
Try to avoid laminating prints
This renders a product as unrecyclable and un-biodegradable.
